A Poem A Day #25

Give Them Hope

Give them an empty notebook,
And they’ll write what they feel.
Give them some bread
And they’ll toss it to the dogs.
Give them a sweater
And they’ll turn it into mittens.
Give them a pen
And they’ll draw you a sword.
Give them a dollar
And they’ll buy an empty book.
Give them a plate
And they’ll fill it with dirt.
Give them a diamond ring
And they’ll drop it down the sewer.
Give them a calculator
And they’ll calculate 2+2.
Give them a flashlight
And they’ll shine it in your eyes.
Give them a job
And they’ll break their ankle.
Give them hope
And they’ll spit at your feet,
But give it to them anyway.
